Hi all:

I created the pattern for and made this Newsboy Hat.  It is made of wool and the lining is printed cotton.  The pin holding up bill is felted and can be replaced by any type of pin.  These are knitted and fleted, crocheted and felted and crocheted.

Hi all,

I created this wool felted bowl out of roving and wool felt on the outside.  My technique is my own and I would not suggest it J I will be doing another bowl using the Nuno Felt method.

Carol knits up sample sections in wool and I look at these knitted lengths and try come up with something remarkable.  Well folks, I think I did it with this.  I had the pebbles, large and small in a candle arrangement.  I carefully, used tiny rubber bands wrapped and secured the pebbles in the wool.   It then went into my Wonder Washer with a hat I had crocheted to be felted.  It made a bit of a racket as the pebbles got tossed around.   I wanted to keep a close eye on the hat because I’d over felted the last one I had knitted.  When I’d pulled the hat out I noticed I had lost some pebbles.  Removing the pebble relief I replaced some of the pebbles and restarted my felting.

The finished hat was not perfect in size but it is good enough and the relief piece dipping wet look very interesting.  I got as much water as I could out and hung it outside the drip.  It was still not dry in the morning but I used my hair dryer.   I did not want to make another purse so I decided on a wall hanging.  I removed the rubber bands and then needle felted the matching wool yarn into the felting piece using straight lines and a scrolling effect.  I am thrilled with it and hope Carol is as well!  I have one other sample knitted with Alpaca yarn she gave me to create something out of.  Hum, I wonder what it will become.  Carol is an amazing knitter . . .  Check out her blog for some of our other joint efforts.  There are some cool purses from Carol’s sample knits that I finished off.

Since I have been writing for Craft Gossip I have been experimenting more and more with felting.  This pendent was knit with KNIT PICK Palette 100% wool yarn in white.   After knitting it, I put a piece of a bamboo skewer vertically and one horizontally and then hand felted it in the sink to control the process.  I crocheted a necklace and machine felted this.  The lime glass beads are hand sewn in a constrained design.  I love it and enjoyed this experiment.   Doesn’t my Buda look lovely?

Linda

I created this felted necklace after caning off-white roving with a little mixture of yellow and blue in the middle of the cane. This was wet and needle felted. I then added sea glass, extra roving, and mother of pearl disc with a tiny bead. After adding a jump ring I used strand of ribbon like yarn for necklace and strung a felted ball for interest. If you have any questions about the felting procedure just ask.

Hello world!

In about me on August 9, 2007 at 2:24 pm

I am from the Midwest and I am a freelance graphic designer and I work for companies and individuals designing their logos, banners, flash and web designs. I have been a long time member with Art on The Net where I have my art gallery. The following is my web site: www.studiolou.com .

I adore most arts and crafts and have tried my hand at most of them to see what appeals to me. When I discovered felting I found a new world of creative crafting, that in my opinion is just being tapped. New books arrive on the market each month and I have purchased my share of these wonderful volumes and was overwhelmed by what you can do with felting.

The felting I am reviewing has nothing to do with knitting, as it is an art unto itself. I hope to offer you the newest in felting ideas and the latest tools for this craft. Hearing from you with ideas, questions or your projects will be a real pleasure for me and everyone else on the site. If you know of a neat link or project please let me know
